Qualcomm May Launch Smartwatch Chip Next Month

Qualcomm is regularly bringing processors for the smartphone. Now it seems that they are ready to expand their portfolio as they may bring something new for smartwatches also. The company has sent out the invites for an event which will be held on September 10^th, 2018. The invite shows the time 9.10hrs and it says “It’s Time. set your watches.” There is a watch designed in the invite and the time is set to 09.10 hours. The image clearly gives a hint that we may see something related to smartwatches on September 10^th. It can be the date when we see a new type of processor by the company.

Many smartwatch makers are using Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processor for a long time. This processor arrived in February 2016. Therefore it is now more than two years that we have not seen the new processor in this segment. Now, Qualcomm is taking the step in this direction. The new processor is expected to be available soon. Therefore many companies will surely like to offer the new edition of their smartwatches to bring the innovation to the series. The new processor may be called as Snapdragon 3100. It can have the same 28nm node as the current processor.

There are reports that the new processor may add the additional power to the battery. It may also be supportive to improve the overall performance. However, it will be interesting to see how much power it is going to add to the device. The market of the smartwatch is not big like other gadgets. Therefore still a lot of work has to be done by the makers to make the device successful. Google has already announced a few months before that they are working with Qualcomm to design a new kind of chip. The new design may offer additional choices to the customers. Moreover, it will also help the manufacturer to include the additional power to the device.

The upcoming processor is going to be the first major update by Qualcomm for the smartwatches. They offered an additional chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 2500 some time ago but we cannot compare it with the current processor of smartwatches. The additional chip was for low-end kids watches. Qualcomm was discussing a flagship gadget some time ago. We may get some news about it by the end of this year but at present, the focus is on the upcoming processor for smartwatches. Many smartwatch makers are gearing up to offer a new device.
