In a recent news, NASA had confirmed a massive sized asteroid will pass close to Earth. It should fly safely, astronomers kept an eye on moving asteroid and they even released an animated image. The giant will fly as close as 86666 (2000FL10) and NASA track its every moment. According to NASA, the big sized asteroid could end our world in a second.
NASA hasn’t revealed the exact size, but some researchers confirmed between 0.7-1.6 miles wide. This is bigger than the previously listed largest asteroid in NASA radar. Astronomers have reported, the size seems to 15 times bigger than the largest asteroid ever recorded. NASA always track asteroid size, status and movement using an automated collision system. It helps to know, whether we are in danger or not. 8666 (2000FL10) is a very big one, so we cannot say it cannot come close to cause any disaster. NASA reports, the upcoming object (2015 R35) will come close to our planet between 2038 and 2114.
NASA is working on a project, which can be also called as “Near Earth Object Program“. It has been launched to protect our planet from the future danger. You might read in the newspaper, 60 feet meteor killed thousand of people in the Russia. So NASA turns to protect the world by blasting objects which are nearer to the our planet.
Inspector General Paul Martin says, “We believe the program would be more efficient, effective and transparent were it organized and managed in accordance with standard NASA research program requirements”
It could be a quarter size of a world’s largest mountain Everest. You can check out the NASA projection on asteroids, where it clearly shows the movement of massive asteroid passes close to planet earth.
