Nutritional deficiencies, chronic diseases influencing various structures, and immobility predispose to aging of the skin in older patients, thus improving vulnerability to pressure ulcers. Pressure ulcer management requires a extensive and multidisciplinary approach. Major variables considered include patient pathologies such as lung disease, peripheral vascular disease, main disease severity, dietary status, co-morbidity, etc. Pressure ulcer therapy objectives include avoiding preventable conditions. However, once the ulcer grows, adequate staging of the wound and, as a result, strict treatment is needed. Major therapy options for pressure ulcers include the use of pressure relief machines, wound dressings and wound healing equipment, tissue sealing agents, and so on. Lately, the techniques used to predict pressure ulcer hazards and prevent the growth of pressure ulcers have gained considerable attention. Pressure relief materials and dressings have been enhanced to allow rapid healing; fresh treatments such as negative pressure wound treatment, growth factors and electrical stimulation are also receiving important attention on the worldwide market.

For the purpose of this study, the global pressure ulcer treatment products market is classified in terms of products, wound types and usage area. Among the considered product types, wound dressings and pressure relief devices occupy the largest share in the global market.
